London offers so many great varieties of cuisine. One of our favourites is Under the Volcano for Mexican.. Their homemade chips and salsa are addicting. It is great that they offer them for take out as they are always requested when heading to the cottage as our special snack munchie. It isn't possible to pick a favourite from Blackened Catfish, Flauta's Chimichangas - all delicious. You just have to save room for dessert even if you share with others. Deep Fried Ice Cream is FANTASTIC!
My daughter and I met for brunch on the 23rd. We've been there before and thought it was fantastic! It would appear they have a new chef. The service was the same, very friendly but a little slow. Anticipating another wonderful meal I was so disappointed when I bit into my burrito only to find it was so salty it over powered every other flavor. I sent it back and just ordered the house salad which I remembered having a cucumber/lime dressing (delish!) and the cheese soup. Again, the last time I had this soup it was fabulous! What a let down. The salad dressing was mostly vinegar. YUKK! But I ate the salad because I was hungry. One bit of the soup...again SALT! No other spice was to be tasted. I asked the waitress if they had a new Chef and her words were, "The recipes are the same". Well....be warned. I hope they fix this issue because I miss what used to be the best Mexican in town.
I have been eating at Under The Volcano for years and love the food.I must say I have a few dishes that are my favorites-but they are HOT! I love the cayene beef as well as the pollo diablo (usually only available in the summer). These will make you sweat.I have found the owners and staff to be very accomodating.Oh ,and how could I forget the chips and salsa,they will leave you wanting more.
I think its pretty good for mexican food. i liked it and so did my friends ive been there quite a few times and always enjoy returning
I live in England and was in London Ontario visiting friends. My friends recommended that we go to their favourite restaurant and I being deprived of good Mexican food in the UK gladly went along. We had a fabulous time - great food, great drinks, great friends! I liked the warm, friendly atmosphere and the service was excellent (I especially noticed this as it is far better than I'm used to in the UK). I loved my burrito, and the chips and salsa that we started with were to die for! I ended up buying a bag of the chips to take home, although they never quite made it that far :) We've already said that we will definately be heading back here the next time I'm in town again. Shame they couldn't open an Under the Volcano in the other London (England) - I would go every week!
