This is one of my favourite restaurants. I first was taken here by my father after he had been so impressed eating here at a business lunch. We haven't had a bad meal here ever. My favourite meal is always the eggplant parmesan. It has to be prepared ahead of time, so make to to mention when you make your reservation, if you want it. Food quality is always amazing. The owner is attentive, enthusiastic, and passionate about the food and service. We have come every year in December from Hamilton to Simcoe to see the Christmas lights. We stop at the Barrel Restaurant first, and it is a highlight of our trip: excellent food, excellent atmosphere. There is a very large menu, so I know people can order what they want and sometimes get something different from what they want. Suffice to say that I find the Penne Capri on par with meals served in Italy, and my husband and in-laws refuse to order anything other than the lasagna because they enjoy it so much every time. Had the apple fritters to die for ... we loved it, after a long bike ride from Cambridge to Paris...it's just what the doctor ordered.. We were greeted and were welcomed as soon as we came in and this place is a little jem. My Family, friends and I have been going to the Egg and I for years and although I never thought of writing a review, I have to this time. We were greeted immediately and only waited a few minutes for a table to clear, it was packed! We celebrated my birthday last Sunday and I was craving their Herb Feta Omelette, with a side of Cherry Pink Bacon, which in my opinion is the BEST brand to buy, and cooked to my perfection. Our drinks came out fast, coffee was fresh and always available but what I appreciated most was all our food came out at the same time. Everyone enjoyed their order and we all devoured the Banana Walnut Pancakes. I've been to fine dining and can't stand when my portion is the size of my palm and our food is not served at the same time. The Egg and I is a wonderful, fun Family Breakfast restaurant in Hamilton. The Brassie is a great place to go with a group of friends. Personally, I go on Tuesdays for the Trivia Night and have a great time, even though the competition is pretty stiff. Often times there are 10 or more teams and the place is full, so the service leaves something to be desired, and even when its not busy there are often mix-ups with orders (usually minor). The quality of the food has really improved over the last year or so and the price is comparable to other pubs in the area. As long as you don't come on Tuesday, you can usually count on a table for a larger group (6 or more). Read more

My friends and I decided to visit Cambridge for an out-of-town getaway. We are all admitted food snobs (one is a chef), so we perused menus and reviews online before heading out (we're from the GTA). It was pretty busy on Friday night so I am glad we made reservations. We arrived and were seated by a very accommodating host (who we found out later was an owner), and served by one of the most pleasant servers I've ever encountered (perhaps his name was Josh?). Every single employee at that restaurant was happy to be at work, which may not sound important, but it is and is one of the gages I use when I'm dining out. My husband and I both worked in restaurants for years, and happy staff says a lot about the owners, chef and overall customer experience that the server is trying to sell. Josh spoke highly of the owner as well as proudly explained the food and the creativeness of the chef and his menu. The food was fresh, creative and delicious. We were really delighted. It wasn't a five-star dining experience (but you are not going in expecting that), rather, it is a twist on pub fare that will leave you pleasantly surprised. We also enjoyed that the restaurant was not 'full of itself', the staff, chef and owners were humble and grateful for any compliments and made us feel welcome and appreciated as diners at their restaurant. My friends and I were sold from the moment we walked in. So much so, that we went back for lunch the next day (it was a no-brainer) and the chef came out to say hi to us and thank us for coming back! We cannot say enough great things about our experience there. I strongly encourage anyone reading this to visit Cafe 13 and enjoy their great food and hospitality. Read more
