Maggie Oakes is a restaurant named after Margaret Oakes, the wife of Edward William Gray, a former sheriff of Montreal. The couple lived not far from Place Jacques-Cartier, in one of the stone houses typical of the Old Montreal neighbourhood. Launched by the Antonopoulos Group, the aim behind the Maggie Oakes project was an ambitious one: to make the place one of the first restaurants in Place Jacques-Cartier to appeal more to locals than to tourists.

"We want people to celebrate the food for its ingredients," says Derek Bocking, a Montreal chef who comes to the restaurant by way of Ma Grosse Truie Chérie and Top Chef Canada. Maggie Oakes is located in the William Gray Hotel and celebrates Montreal cuisine in a chic and authentic way.

A very nice restaurant. Service and food were excellent. We shared the tomahawk steak and charcuterie.. all very nice. Complimented by a good wine list and cocktail menu.

Montreal chef Derek Bocking’s menu, as seen on Top Chef, offers a choice of starters consisting of a roasted onion soup or a kale salad with oak leaf for $30. For the main course, choose between veal short ribs, the Arctic char or quinoa salad and grilled peaches. Add a dessert of the day to top it all off.
