Two blocks north of the Rosedale subway station, a white squirrel beams from a wall of emerald green grass. The albino squirrel has made the trek from its natural habitat in Trinity Bellwoods Park to its second home inside Freshii, along with owner David Ginsberg and his fair trade, locally roasted organic coffee.
Stepping up to the counter at White Squirrel Coffee Shop to peruse the menu board, you will see vintage moveable magnets displaying the daily offerings, which are simple and straight up — espresso drinks, coffee, tea, hot cocoas and lemons, as well as their iced counterparts.
From the sparkling top-of-the-line modern espresso machine to the polished wood countertops in front of the ice cream freezer — chock full of Greg’s famous ice cream — you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into an old-fashioned soda fountain meets clean, minimalist and modern coffee bar.
Named after the mystical mascot of Trinity Bellwoods Park – the illusive white squirrel—this hipster haven has limited seating and an ice cream take-out window, which serves Greg’s ice cream (we recommend the malt ball flavour). You can sit inside or on their outdoor bench whilst sipping on a fair trade, organic coffee, or grab a cup on your way into the park.
Want to read some Jack Kerouac and feel like you’re right in his world? Stop by this little gem in the hipster village of Queen West. Try their famous Greg’s roasted marshmallows and espresso and then take a stroll through Trinity Bellwoods.
White Squirrel Coffee Shop is located just opposite Trinity Bellwoods on Queen West, and is the ideal spot for park-goers looking to fuel up on gourmet offerings and all the café staples. White Squirrel also scoops Greg’s ice cream and is committed to sourcing and serving local. With wood floors, bright walls, and split-back seating, White Squirrel is a much-wanted addition to your Trinity Bellwoods routine.
