Much like many of the other shop owners in the area, Jeremy Lago is a local who decided to shape his work to fit his life and his community. After years of working in the restaurant industry as a sommelier, Jeremy completed his fromager training at George Brown College and is now an expert in both of these complementary delicacies. "I worked in the restaurant industry for a long time as a sommelier, and then I got sick of the hours. I live in this east end neighbourhood and it's great to be a part of all the exciting change that's happening here,” he explains. In April 2014, Jeremy and his wife Kathryn opened The Pantry to the public, offering fine artisanal cheeses, olives, meats, baguettes, olive oils, aged balsamics, tapenades, pastas and more. His shop has a classic country feel to it—it’s warm and inviting, with a bright minimalist décor that serves to highlight the main attraction, artisanal Canadian cheeses.
The Pantry prides itself on being a Canadian artisanal cheese shop. Offering a selection of cheese from across the country, The Pantry is owned by husband and wife duo Jeremy and Kathryn Lago. First opened in 2014, The Pantry is located in Leslieville.
