We stopped in for lunch on Saturday, March 3rd and enjoyed a pleasant meal. Food was hot, portion size was adequate but sushi was very small and mushy textured. The restaurant was fairly busy but there were lots of empty tables. Once our food arrived we were left pretty much alone and not asked if we wanted tea or our drinks refilled. When the bill was brought to the table my husband said he would pay by debit and was waved over to the debit machine. As our guest and I put our coats on we were asked by a frantic looking waitress to please not leave yet. I asked if there was a problem and she just said, don't leave, don't leave. I looked for my husband who was standing watching the sushi chefs work which he had done since he had paid the bill. I called to him, he came to our table and I told him we were asked not to leave. He went to the lady where he had paid and asked her if there was a problem. She said that the transaction went through fine but that she saw he had not put a tip on the bill. He told her that we always leave a cash tip on the table. She said it should be on the debit bill, not on the table. He said he would leave it at the table and walked away. We leave a cash tip because we are aware that sometimes waitstaff do not receive tips that are generated from debit or credit purchases at the time of their shifts and because it is a great way to dispose of toonies and loonies. Several other patrons in the restaurant were watching us with great interest trying to figure out why we were being detained, it was very very embarassing. We left a paltry $2 instead of the $6 we had planned to tip as we were so put off by this experience. A tip is a "reward" for good service. We sat down, ordered directly from a menu, did not ask for anything extra or cause any fuss or disturbance that would have qualified a waitress for a larger tip. That experience totally put us off of this restaurant and we won't be back.
We were weekly visitors over 6 years ago when the owners cared about the quality of food. They changed owners several years ago and we had dinner for a party of 16 while under the new ownership. The portions were much smaller and thinner while the fish was not fresh. Being so close to home we elected not to go back until recently. About a month ago we had dinner there again and just as before the quality was lousy and the sushimi portions small. We decided we would never go back to this restaurant,
Visited with My wife and 2 kids. Sushi was very good, so was service even though it was busy.
The sushi is adequate at best. Mississauga has little choice for Sushi so I've given Sushi Tei a try several times. The price is higher than I am used to paying for sushi and the quality isn't there. Definitely avoid the spider roll, it's always horrible, however the double dynamite roll can be a treat.
there is nothing special about this restaurant, i rather drive up to markham/scarborough for more variety and better authentic japanese food. This is okay, considering there are not many sushi restaurants in mississauga. But compared to toronto, or markham/scarborough, i cant say this is good
The food is extremely good, the only issue I have with this place is the price. I am low income and can't always afford to eat here, but I love what they serve.
I have mixed feelings about Sushi Tei. Since it was a Sunday evening, my bf called to make reservations. He has an unusual name and I was surprised that he was off the phone in less than 30s! This leads me to believe that whomever picked up the phone, never wrote his name down. When we arrived, on-time, the host said that he gave away our booth as we were seated near the door. It was fine, but I couldn't help but think that this happened since our reservation was overlooked! I inquired the host about a sushi boat that was on their take-out menu. I was told that I couldn't order it, but that I could order another sushi combo that wasn't on the menu. He sent a waitress to give me the details, but I decided against it as it was even more expensive. I'm not sure why they don't offer sushi boats to share. This would be a nice option to have, especially when dining with a few people! Before our side dishes were finished, our main courses already arrived! (It was definitely within 10mins of ordering.) Aside from the California Roll being all different sizes, the presentation was fine. Although once I started eating, the Cali came apart, as well as the fish separating from the rice on the nigiri pieces. I don't mind FAST service, but I would prefer that a few extra minutes be taken to ensure rolls aren't sloppily done - especially if it's not a cheap restaurant! There doesn't seem to be any pride taken in making the sushi. The salmon soft, and so was the tuna, however it was a tad fishy. So it wasn't overall the freshest that I have tasted. As usual, green tea ice cream was served after we were done with our mains...along with the bill. And even though the host stated that there was no rush with the payment, what else are we supposed to feel when there is a receipt staring us right in the face?? So I wouldn't recommend Sushi Tei if you were looking for a romantic meal where you wanted to take your time dining. Overall, all of my dining experiences here have been decent, however not very memorable. I realise that there are other places that I enjoy more because I'm not rushed and the quality of fish is better. And again, why don't they serve sushi/maki/sashimi boats to share??
This is my go to sushi place when I have out of town guests or when someone in our group is trying sushi for the first time. The food is great, and the service is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable. I really like the fact that they will always try to accommodate your request for a booth, even if you're a party of two!
The owner is probably the happiest man alive...always greeting us with a smile, "Hi...long time no see!" and a wave goodbye. Sometimes I'm a bit hesitant in going because I know that he'll recognise me. In terms of the a la carte sushi places in Mississauga, I'd say that this one has the best, intimate atmosphere. Nice decor, dark coloured scheme, adequate lighting, and booths are available. Food-wise, I don't remember having a bad meal. Korean side dishes are always provided, as is green tea ice cream. This time, the fish was really fresh for both the sushi boat ($20.95) + separate spicy salmon roll ($5.95/6 pieces) that I got. Service-wise, tea is always refilled. And sometimes the manager even asks how the meal is. One thing that I must mention is that I'm not sure why they don't have larger boats with more than 20 pieces. I think this would be a popular item for patrons who don't necessarily want to go to an AYCE.
Today will be my last visit to this restaurant. I was a fairly regular patron (once or twice, every other week) however the attitudes of the waitresses have blown it for me. They are opposed (to the point of scowling and whining) to providing separate cheques. Laziness perhaps? The waitress actually said to us when we asked for separate cheques "That's a lot of work." Really?! They also provide oranges to follow up your meal - nice touch but too bad they often bring it to the table when we're still eating our sushi. The food is decent however the service kills the entire experience.
The food was exceptionally good. The decor was very well done and the atmosphere was nice and cosy. The food came relatively quickly which was a nice bonus. Unfortunatly where they excelled in the food's appealing taste they miserably lacked in service etiquette. All they need to do in my opinion is greatly improve in their service and a bit in language skills and they should do fine.
This place now has the worst possible service imaginable. I've been a regular on this restaurant for years now, always bringing new people and talking the restaurant up. It seems as though the management changed. Now it's the last place i'd go for sushi. They have the nerve to interrupt people's dinner to rush them into paying the bill; the offered my friend dessert and when I asked for some they said I had to pay the bill first (????), even though i'm there every second week. The staff is incredibly rude, unashamedly rushing you out, regardless of the time of day. Decent food - but not worth the hassle. Save yourself a frustrating night :p
My wife and I have dinner at Sushi-Tei at least twice a month and have seldom had any issues with the food or service. The prices are great and the food is good.
We were rushed out the door close to when we were finishing up dinner. After we paid, the manager actually asked if we were finished b/c there are people waiting for our table. We found him to be rude and ill-mannered. We never had this type of rudeness with the previous management. And we were at the table for less than 1 hr. We would not recommend this restaurant especially if you have kids. We didn't even get to finish feeding our toddler. The manager and the staff all have the same attitude, get them in and out as fast as we can to increase revenue. But this is the only restaurant I've only experience where they truely try to kick you out the door!
We have gone to this Mississauga Sushi Restaurant multiple times over the past 3 years. But this was the first time with a Reservation, or with more than 2 people. We booked a reserved table for 6pm on a Saturday, for 6 people. we were seated immediately the staff was courteous. However shortly afterwards they started coming around every 5min asking if were were ready to order our dinner (the 3rd couple had not even arrived yet). The manager came over at 6:20 to tell us that the table had been booked for 7:30 and that if we are ordering we should do it so they could get it ready for the next setting. After ordering, the food arrived Very Quickly, without any time to even finish the appetizers. While the food tasted alright it was very obvious that they had rushed making the sushi. As it was both poorly sliced and not properly rolled. All the while the wait staff was constantly coming by to look in to see if we had finished yet. The Tempura and Gyoza, were rushed though the cooking process as well. The Tempura shrimp as far too close to underdone. Leaving most at the table with a heavy feeling after eating. at 7:00 they started asking if we wanted the bill, and by 710 we got fed up and said yes. The most insulting error then occurred. despite being 3 bills, all printed and delivered separately, the most expensive single item (a beef Teriyaki with a substituted sushi at 25$) was included on all 3 bills. After much trouble flagging down a waiter (after all this hurrying they then decided that we didn't need any further prompting and thus were ignoring us) the 2 incorrect bills were corrected and we were told to go to the back to pay. We were then told that we should then deliver our tips back to the table as the manager did not hold the wait staffs tips. (needless to say there wasn't any tips to deliver) While we had previously enjoyed eating there in the past, none of us will be returning. The Un-Welcoming attitude, Rushed eating, and Expensive mistakes haved totally turned us off.
We were seated in booths. Service was friendly. I did not like the kalbi beef. It was not as great as some of the other restaurant's that I have visited. It was difficult to for the beef to come of the bone. The bento box comes with soup and salad. I found them similar to other restaurants that I have visited previously. I have no other complaints but also nothing really interested me there.
The restaurant is satisfying. It was relatively full yet we were seated in no more than a minute. We were seated in a private area second room. The wait was a little long but there were free appetizers tofu, bean sprout, salad, fish, and soup. The California Maki was good, but I prefered a different sauce. The Tempura was filling, i prefered the sweet potato rather than the prawn, I found the taste common. I could barely finish the taro because I was so full. A dessert comes in. Green Tea Ice cream...Ive grown very fond of it, but one of them tasted odd, be careful, hopefully you could get fresh food. But its great on the inside, interior.
I go have lunch or dinner with my girlfriend at least a few times a month. It is most definitely the best sushi i have had. The service is great, they definitely make you feel at home.
We visit often, three-four times a month. They have the BEST sashimi we have ever tried, not only in Mississauga but elsewhere in North America. Like another reviewer mentioned, we are treated like family by staff, though we are white Caucasian with no particular Asian affinities.
The restaurant had changed owners for a while now. Although in the beginning when it changed, it produced a very bad quality of food. It didn't taste as good as before. Now, it has improved nicely since then and I am very happy with the food and experience there.
