Not the same....

My husband and I used to get chinese food from Good Taste, which was in the same space as Ray's now is. It is NOT the same owners for sure, as we were hoping. The food was just OK, and I would discourage anyone from ordering the chicken balls. As i feared, they were mostly breading, with an itty bitty piece of chicken in the middle. The only thing I truly enjoyed, was the shrimp. These plump, juicy shrimp were fried to perfection, not to mention deveined!!! Yay to Ray on that!!! Still searching for the best Chinese place in town...

Good first impression!

I recently moved to Guelph and my neighbours suggested that we try Ray's restaurant. I'm glad they did because the food was amazing! The ginger beef was delicious! Each piece of beef seemed to be marinated in the ginger sauce. The spring rolls were by far the best i've ever tasted. they tasted like the ones you could get in Toronto. The lemon chicken was very crispy. my boyfriend ate 1/2 the order! however, the lemon sauce was a bit to watery....i would suggest getting the sweet and sour sauce. Thye also include some honey chips with the meal which were delicious!

why can't anyone cook good chinese food in guelph

I love Chinese food and I'm disappointed every time I try a new place in Guelph, or even the same place but picking different dishes. This one is no exception. The hot & sour soup here was a bit strange. It was a little on the sweet side, as if they put some sweet & sour sauce in it, which is just wrong! The egg foo young might have been ok if the sauce was better. You can tell they used too much starch so the sauce was almost as thick as custard, which is just wrong too! The pork used for the sweet & sour dish was really low quality, like tough to chew quality. It's probably a restaurant's secret that they use their worst quality meat on foods that are battered and fried to hide the poor quality, or maybe it's not so secret. The sweet and sour sauce was way to thick and goopy. Even my boyfriend couldn't eat a second helping because the sweet & source sauce was overbearing. This restaurant's name recently change to Ray's but it's still the same poor quality as the old name. I'm not sure if they changed management or changed names to create a new reputation, but the food hasn't changed at all. They included fried won ton's covered with honey. I have to give them kudos for those. I couldn't stop eating them! That's why they got a 5 for food instead of a 4.

I currently eat here three times a week

On the third time coming in here, the waitress looked up at me, smiled and said, "Ah, takeout? Won Ton Soup?" I can always count on a friendly smile, quick service, and a good memory of my continued patronage. I've never eaten in the restaurant, but I come for take-out about three times a week, whether for just the soup, or the chicken lo mein or Shangai Noodles. I just really dig that soup. The food is amazing, and the service keeps me coming back. I've even been inspired to start using my wok at home. Thanks Ray's for being be second home!

The best in Guelph. Have tried them all

The food is cooked to perfection, staff and chef have got to be the most helpful and friendly in Guelph. They will cook most things the way you want them done. If it is not on the menu, I know that they will prepare what you wish to have. The water is ice cold and no taste of chlorine. The price of the meal is very reasonable. Try the restuarant and you will not be disappointed.
