Welcome to the Ottawa Art Gallery. As a public art gallery, the OAG is a space for reflection and respectful dialogue. We believe that art plays an important role in addressing and helping us to better understand the complex, global challenges of our time. To that end, we prioritize care in all we do and we condemn all forms of hate.

📍Location: Galerie Annexe, level 1
Date: August 8th
Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
This chat will take place in ...Galerie Annexe, surrounded by the group exhibition Sight, not Seeing. Together, Felicity and Sandra will delve into the central question of the show: What is Blackness, and how does it manifest on this land?
Felicity Hauwert is a Black Nova Scotian and Dutch visual artist concerned primarily with memory, its construction, and visual embodiments. They view their practice of creation-based research as being inherently relational and come to image making from an autoethnographically standpoint that engages familial, non-familial, and land-based relationships. Through their practice, they continue to be occupied by deep historical, aesthetic, and visual ties across the Black Atlantic.

📍Lieu : Galerie Annexe, niveau 1
Date : 8 août
Heure : 17 h 30 – 19 h 30

Tonight we celebrated the opening of the exhibition Sight, not Seeing at Galerie Annexe @oagshop_annexe curated by OAG Commercial, Community Guest Curator, Sandra Ngenge Dusabe @themovingartgallery ! 🎉👏
In Sight, not Seeing, Black artists grapple with the tension between visibility ...and invisibility in Canada. This exhibition challenges how representation is shaped—and often distorted—by colonial legacies. Through diverse media, the artists invite critical reflection on how ideas of Blackness are constructed, circulated, and internalized across media, visual culture, and everyday life.
This exhibition is developed through the Curatorial Fellowship Program, designed to support the career growth of emerging Black Canadian curators. This innovative program is a partnership between the OAG, the Ottawa Black Art Kollective (@_obak_) and the National Gallery of Canada @natgallerycan .
✨ The exhibition is on view until August 10, 2025 on level 1 and admission is always free.
Thank you to everyone that joined us! 💗
