Fire fascinates and hypnotizes. One can easily get lost in one's thoughts when looking at flames dancing in a fireplace or licking a candle. It is no surprise then that fire dancing, a visually stunning ritual, is so captivating to spectators. “Audiences are always left speechless; it’s a fascinating sight, and the dancers who practice this art are mesmerizing to watch. It’s truly a unique performance,” explains Vera Zissis, fire dancing artist.
The young artist’s performances are centered on the manipulation of poï (tethered fireballs), fans and staffs to create mystifying choreographies. “We manipulate all kinds of fire-supporting objects," she says, "so no two performances are alike.”
Vera performs during festivals, but also during private and corporate events. "We have performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, at Orientalis, as well as the Festival des Traditions du Monde de Sherbrooke,” she adds.
