It was in her mother's kitchen that Sarah Legris developed a soft spot for all things natural. A devoted vegetarian, Sarah’s mother was known for her delicious homemade yogurts and preference for natural remedies, which she used in the household for minor ailments. Before she’d reached her teenage years, Sarah was well-versed on the topic of natural foods.
When she left the nest, Sarah chose a career in graphic design, but the long hours and demanding projects led her to choose a line of work where she’d feel more at home: natural foods.
She found work at Frenco, a popular health food store on Saint-Laurent Boulevard opened by a German immigrant in the early '80’s. While it was just supposed to be a job on the side, Sarah quickly learned the ropes of the natural food trade and was soon running the place. In 2006, when the owner decided to sell, she decided to buy. Sarah and her husband, Toby Lamontagne, soon began pooling their passion and experience into Frenco to create a fruitful business Montrealers still love. Today, locals continue to turn to Frenco for its wide variety of dried fruits, nuts, spices, coffees, medicinal herbs and more, all available in bulk and right around the corner from home.
