The owners at Wrestlers make it their mission to create authentic paletas. All of the paletas are made fresh daily and come in 20 flavours. They also offer toppings like toasted coconut, melted chocolate and currants. The flavours are always changing, and the community can get involved by suggesting future creations on a flavour sign-up sheet.

If you’re a little lost here, paletas are tropical treats from Oaxaca, Mexico, traditionally served out of street-vending cart. Basically, they’re gourmet Mexican popsicles (that’s right, this ain’t your everyday ice cream shop). The Emerson-bulb sign of this subterranean spot is hard to miss, and it’s one of 2016’s most prime patios in the neighbourhood for a sweet cool down or a slushy margarita.

Wrestlers, perched beneath La Tortilleria on Augusta Avenue, is one such popsicle palace, complete with fancy paletas (pistachio dipped in chocolate and accented with coconut shreds, for instance), slushy margaritas, Mexican horchata, and churros. To boot, there’s a street-facing patio, so can enjoy the cool treat while getting in some solid people watching.
