I always buy Item72, black bean curd sauce, beef, fried noodles. HUGE portions, $9, everyone loves this dish ! Nice ! open until 4 am or so
This is more of a "white ghost" restaurant. If wanting authentic Chinese cusine, try House of Gourmet around the corner on Dundas St. West.
Very good wonton soup. Excellent fried rice. Great atmostphere. Busy often but that is a good sign. Will definitely be going back. Service is ok, but then again, I care about food more than the service.
Cheap and popular spot in downtown Toronto. It's been busy every time I've gone. The service was quick and the food hot, so I have no complaints. Although the service was very efficient, I did feel as though we were being rushed, which was understandable considering the lineup and popularity. One of my favorite restaurants in the GTA!
This place "is what it is" and it's the best in its category. Ya, the lighting is too bright & florescent, ya the service is not chummy (they think their job is just to transport the food from the kitchen) and some of the dishes are a bit boring, or lowest common denominator. But it's authentic, well-priced and some of the dishes are terrific (try the specials posted on the wall). btw, they've freshened the place up on the last few months, Fast service, good food, good prices.
The food was OK but the service was terrible. The staff looks after you at pay time & insist to be tipped even when the service sucks.
The food was excellent, although the atmosphere was not good, very crowded, not enough space and not very clean!!service was'nt great either - would go back just for the food but next time may just order takeout !!!
The food was average, the atmosphere is not very comfy or clean. I was displeased with the customer service I felt they were in a hurry to have more people come in by rushing us out, so we couldnt really sit down to enjoy the meal. I wouldn't go there again.
The food was so-so nothing out of the ordinary. It's small and not the best looking. WHen it gets busy customer service is poor as they give u the bill to kind of rush you out. It's NOT a good place to sit down to enjoy the meal.Chinese tea is usuallyfree in any asian restaurant btw.
Swatow is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE RESTAURANT. I live an hour and a half from toronto but I come as often as possible! The food is amazing - I'm never disappointed!
Food is nothing special and pretty good service. So good that they will take your plate away while you are still eating. Kind of rude!!!! I wouldn't go back there again.
Busy, cheap, and popular spot in downtown Toronto. Often a lineup at the door. Dishes come out very quick and are always piping hot and tasty. Servers are quick and efficient, but mot overly-friendly.
Popular restaurant in the heart of Toronto downtown Chinatown. Did not see this establishment listed under the Chinese cuisine heading, but found it in the "family". No problem, but may confuse some of the readers, like me. On the small side, but run quite efficiently. Our soups were actually very good...none of that soapy after taste that can be common. Lots of regular customers, that's good. A dish that we saw others order often which we will try the next time is the rice noodle with beef brisket soup.
An excelent restaurant and sometimes a lineup, so we know the dishes are fresh. It's not frequented much by the suburbanites, so we know it's authentic Chinese cuisine.
