Some say it’s the simple things in life that are the best. That certainly was the philosophy behind the opening of Scout & Cash Caffe.
“The idea was to be a neighbourhood eatery and drinking place in the traditional old-school Italian style,” explains owner Michael Aniballi, who opened the place in June 2014. “We wanted it to be caffe-centric with a simple menu of Italian American classics with some dramatic improvements and playful updates, nothing too complicated; a place you can come in and out of a few times a day or a few times a week for maybe a coffee or fresh-baked treat in the morning, a panini and soup for lunch, then a quick beer or wine and some meatballs amatriciana after work, and of course, brunch on the weekends with the kids,” he adds.
The result is a cozy little 18-seater (with 12 more spots on the outside terrace) on the corner of Christie and Pendrith streets, just north of Bloor in the Annex. Here, the owner literally gets to know your name. And speaking of names: the inspiration behind the restaurant’s moniker? Scout & Cash is named after Michael’s twins, daughter Scout and son Cash.
