Fantastic comfort food

When the weather starts to get chilly I have to start making mother's dumplings part of my regular routine. It's a good idea to go with at least three people so that you can get multiple dishes and share. These are the freshest, yummiest dumplings I've ever had. Noodles are also house made and amazing. The new location is much nicer than the previous one.

Dumplings Galore!

Good place with a wide variety of dumplings for those who eat meat and those who are vegetarian. I've been here twice with a coworker of mine and both times we had ordered the pork and chives steamed dumplings, vegetable steamed dumplings, and the onion pancake. I think it's a great place for lunch and to share with a group of people. However, it does get kind of boring after eating your 6th dumpling in a row (I believe it comes with a dozen dumplings). The decor was decent..nothing fancy. At first glance, it looks like a small place, but if you walk further into the restaurant, there's an area with more tables and even couches. I also like that you can see the chefs making the dumplings from scratch in the kitchen. I'm no longer working in that area, but my old coworker and I have already discussed that the next time I visit Spadina & College, we'll be going back to Mother's Dumpling for lunch!

I discovered Mother Dumplings through my...

I discovered Mother Dumplings through my boyfriend a few months ago, and ever since it's become one of my favorite places in Toronto EVER! One of the few spots that if it ever closed down I would cry real tears, and I am a major food lover. We go nearly once a week now. I'm vegetarian so I've only had the veggie items on the menu but I hear the meat is great too. We always get the kimchi, and alternate between the seaweed and tofu salad as starters. The melon, tofu and noodle steamed dumplings are our personal favorite, but the chive and noodle are also great. The green onion pancake is INSANELY good... I'm addicted to it. We always get one to start and then, even though we're stuffed, can't help ourselves and order another one at the end of the meal. It's chewy and crispy and full of flavour and steaming hot... such a foody pleasure. Service is quick and to-the-point (the waitress who is always there has limited english, but has been really helpful when I ask about what has meat in it and is sweet overall). The veggie buns are also good, and we tried a soup last time which was tasty but we'll probably skip it next time. The place is tiny and not much to look at, but clean and busy and totally worth it for the food.
