A friend and I went one night in February '09. I had never been, but inside, it looked like your average pub with several "rooms" to accommodate any type of group. I happened to notice on the Specials Board, that they had salmon. Our waitress arrived not long after we had seated ourselves. She was very friendly and recommended a wine for me after asking what kind I liked (I was going to order the house white). It was great wine and I noticed she charged the house price (cheaper) instead of what it actually went for. We looked at the menus, but that salmon was on my mind and that's what I ordered. The salmon was beautiful, done just right and the vegetables were nicely steamed, not limp, and not raw. I meant to ask what kind of rice it was served with as it tasted like basmati rice. If not, they at least steamed it using scented water. Delicious! My friend's pulled pork was pretty good (according to him). Good service, good food. Hope to receive both next time I'm here!

The food is average. Not very expensive but nothing to write to mom about. Our waitress rude and unaccomodating, we were not her top priority. Spend your money elsewhere - there is better food and friendlier service at tons of other pubs in this town.

Amazing breakfasts! I've been here many times and will always go back. Service isn't always perfect, but they are often very busy so it's understandable.

Late night grub for famished night owls in Ottawa

Late night grub for famished night owls in Ottawa

When it’s last call and you’re looking for comfort food, make your way to the Pump for a pint and pound of wings. This popular British-style pub has topped up its late-night food menu with vegetarian and lighter fare such as a hummus and green goddess platter — all the better when you’re saving room for a final shared sip of that Pilsner pitcher.

Enjoy weekend brunch in Ottawa’s Centretown

Enjoy weekend brunch in Ottawa’s Centretown

Sure, it’s hard to throw a rock without hitting a pub in Centretown, but the food at the Pump is a cut above most. Try one of the six variations on eggs benny, such as eggs Parisienne, made with mushrooms and Brie. Other choices run the gamut from a low-carb protein plate to sourdough French toast, and the menu also includes a number of gluten-free and vegetarian options. Extra points for the wide selection of juices, including grapefruit-orange and pineapple-orange-lime. In warm weather, the large patio is almost always packed.
