Went with a group for New Years dinner 2018/2019. Was the later sitting for 8pm. We were seated 1/2 late. The soup and salad took a while and we didn’t get our main course till after 10:15pm. For the food, the cost per meal was way over priced! The food was not even hot. Very disappointed. Won’t go back.
I was very disappointed with my evening;our waitress was too pushy & seemed eager to get us in & out as quick as possible even though we were the only customers in the dining room. Presentation lacked appeal & I was quite disenchanted when served my all time favorite "Chicken Oscar" with no asparagus & very menial crab & hollandaise sauce. We then moved closer to the bar due to the awkwardness of staff arguing.Bartender lacked knowledge of simple cocktails;ceasars martinis
Our young waitress was absolutely delightful and asked if we were pleased with each course. We were extremely happy with the Prime Rib. Best ever!! We have been here many times and each experience has been a treat. For $30 each, it was a feast.
I came here once many years ago and I can say it has not changed a bit. I had the prime rib and found it extremely salty. As it was many years ago when I was there. Also I ordered mind medium well and got medium. Service was good.
MY FAMILY AND I WENT TO HARPOS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN JUNE , I HAD ALLWAYS HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE RESTERANT , BUT HAD NEVER GONE BEFORE . I MUST TELL YOU WE WERE PLEASENTLY SURPRISED. THEY OFFER A FEATURE MENU WITH 5 OR 6 ITEMS FOR ENTRES AND THAT COMES WITH SOUP OR SALAD AND A DESERT FOR 30.00. WITH GOOD SIZE PORTIONS . THE SERVERS WERE VERY NICE AND THE SERVICE WAS GREAT ,THE FOOD WAS EXCELLANT, WE WILL DEFFINATLY GO BACK SOON .
While leaving the oshawa centre the other week I noticed Harpos accross the street. I always saw the sign but have never gone until recently I decided to call my dad and take him out for dinner. all I can say is that my family and I have been missing out. The food was out standing. I decided to have the speacial of the night, chicken with a portobello mushroom sauce and fresh cooked veg. My husband had the peppercorn steak that was to die for, and my dad throughly enjoyed his filet mignon with a side of lobster. the presentation was fantastic and even better the food was was beyond amazing and full of flavour. we will deffiently be back and i will be telling my friends Harpos is a MUST TRY. the service was great and very friendly. We did wait a short while for food but it was deffiently worth waiting for. I rather wait a little extra for a freshly made gourmet meal..... oh and not to mention as i made last minute plans I didn't have a babysitter for my 6 month old son therefore I brought him to dinner and the atmosphere was great and the staff was very welcoming. thanks Harpos, Sue & Tom
After being told it was an hour and a half wait at the Keg, we thought we would try Harpos. I had the best Prime rib I have had in a long while. My wife had the catch of the day and was very happy. We'll be back!
We went here for a family party, It was horrible! I would never recommend this place to anyone! First off, The decor was atrocious, and mix matched. Seriously needs to be updated...What does Audrey Hepburn, The Fonz and Jesus have in common?? Apparently Harpo's... Looking at the menu, I was intrigued, I ordered the "Red Snapper" catch of the day. Everyone who ordered off of the feature menu, received very tiny meat portions, over-compensated with vegetables. (and I'm not a big eater at all!) everyone left hungry. All glassware was mismatched even though many people ordered the same drinks, some were served in glasses half the size of others, but all were charged the same $$$. Also, apparently it is additional cost to have a lemon wedge in your iced tea... All food was served on absolutely ridiculously oversized plates and dishes, which looked even more absurd serving these tiny portions. Food quality was horrible, my fish was burnt at the bottom and covered with a really nasty cream sauce. Most other party members were also so disappointed with the low quality of their food it went untouched. If you decide to go to Harpo's (which I highly don't recommend) chose to eat from their regular menu, and not from their over-glorified $30 feature menu. (you'll know about this deal because of the absurd 10 ft by 10 ft sign out front)... Restaurant makeover anyone???
After a couple of disappointments in other Oshawa restaurants it was nice to find a gem. Service was very good. Waitress was attentive and knew the specials and timed the courses just right. Petit filet mignons were cooked just right. Their three course $30 menu has alot of great selections and won't leave you hungry. All in all a great white tablecloth location in the city.
We went to Harpos for the first time and were so surprised to find a restaurant in Oshawa with such calibre. The food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was great. We will definetly go back soon :)
the atmosphere and food was amazing! everything was just perfect! Ten overalll!!!!!!!!!!
We both had the prime rib. Best ever had. Great atmosphere. Great service.
the food is to die for freindly staff great atmosphere
What a great find. Forget driving to Toronto when you can go to Harpo's. The beef tenderloin was the best I have had. The King crab was amazing. we thouroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back for sure.
My husband and I recently dined at Harpos for our first time and were very impressed. When we arrived we were seated immediately. Even though it was a busy night the service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, prompt, and polite. There was many great choices on the menu to choose from as well as dinner features. My husband ordered the 24oz rib steak. It was the best steak he's ever had( and he's known to be a critic! ). It was very tender, and cooked to perfection. I had the surf and turf and was equally satisfied. The presentation of the meals was also great. Needless to say were were happy customers! Whether it's a special occasion or just a night out Harpos is our first choice from now on. *****
When my husband and I want to go out for an excellent meal in a great atmosphere...this is where we go. We always get the prime rib (unbelievable) as well as the caesar salad. You are served garlic bread (amazing) and a pickle / cheese tray prior to dinner...they will fill your garlic bread basket as often as you ask. Excellent food, service, value and atmosphere.
We were actually there with a group of about 16 and the food was incredible. The Prime Rib is thick and cooked precisely how we wanted it. The other menu choices included a chicken dish and also a fish choice. To my knowledge everyone loved their food. The service was a little bit too quick; felt a little rushed if anything; but very attentive. The pickle tray that is served before the meal lacks creativity, quality and quantity for a restaurant of this calibre; and they would be better served to provide a more varied and hearty offering. But we didn't go for the pickles. We would definately return; over and over.
Always and I mean always the prime rib is great. I don't know about the rest because, that's all we ever order. We have been eating at Harpo's for over 10 years. The garlic bread is great too.
You need to pick and choose a good time to visit Harpo's. the food is excellent with a variety of choices. Avoid special Occasion's such as valentines day, they shrink their menu down to 4 or 5 items and push you in and out the door. Bring your Visa!
Our waitress was great and friendly. The overall ambience in Harpos is quite nice as well. The pressentation of the meals is done extremely well. It took quite a while yesterday to get the food. My guess was, that there was a shortage of chefs. The quality, even though the meals are presented very well, is just average and therefore, since Harpos charges higher prices than Downtown Toronto fine dining restaurants, not acceptable. I had a Frutti di Mari pasta dish. Any family restaurant will serve you the same at 60% of the price, a larger portion on top of it. As a dessert, Harpos serves some caramel cake, which comes from the same source, where IGA buys there's. Bottom line, Harpos is way overpriced for just average food quality.
