I was somewhat disappointed in your new restaurant today, first of all, the two ladies at reception could not find my reservation & needed assistance to find it.Second, my fish dinner was very dry & had no flavor. My brothers steak was not cooked to his liking. The service was excellent though, I must say, the gentleman was a delight. For the $100 + tab, I will have second thoughts on returning to this restaurant. Plus the restaurant was very loud & uncomfortable to talk to each other.
Had to wait 40 minutes between starters + our dinner. They said they had a party of 20 + 9 people holding up the chef along with all the other tables? Bad excuse in our eyes. I thought maybe the chef had quit. Disappointed as we had other things to do after dinner. Had to ask server for butter for the potatoe, forgot the water + few other things etc. I think the server was off his game because the kitchen was not up to speed. It was just kind of a mess last night but will try again with luck.
You should update your hours on YellowPages, we drove across town for lunch at 12:00PM only to find that you don't open until 4:00PM.
This restaurant is so special to my wife and I that we make a point to go there every year on our anniversary. This year is our 25th and once again it was another top of the line experience! I never have to worry about the food. It is always excellent. The atmosphere is so cozy and the staff gives you the impression that they are eager to serve and help. I love this place!
Years ago we had a Christmas party at the Keg and swore never to go back. After a year of having a $50.00 gift card in my wallet we decided to give it another shot, what a mistake. We got to the restuarant and we nicely greeted and shown to our seats right away. I started with the Ceasar Salad and my Wife had the Crab Cakes. The Ceasar was ok at best, the bacon must of ran away because I didn't seem to have any in my salad. The Crab Cakes were far from fresh and my wife ate one of the two. On to the main coarse, I had Steak Tereaki and my Wife had the Fillet both ordered medium rare. Honestly the worst steak I have ever had. Both medium rare were actually well done and the steak itself was horrible. We both had to saw through our meals as the steak was so tough and my tereaki tasted like they poured cough medicine on it and I stress "on it" as there was no juice in either of our steaks. Dreadfull is all I can say and would NEVER go back to thge Keg again. We didn't even bring the leftovers home to the dog as we care for him to much to expose him to that quality of food. If you don't believe me go to Aroma's, Waldo's on King or Micheals on the Thames and have steak, one that you can cut with a fork! You will never go back to the keg. My stomach is cramping writing this review and having to relive the meal we had. Our Server was very nice, and the double baked potato was good but didn't make up for the $82 of horrible food we subjected ourselves too. Anyone who posts a good review on this is either an owner, friend or employee!
Great food. Prime rib cooked to order. Served with friendly and cheerfull wait staff. I never get tired of comming here. I have been a customer for years and never had a bad meal at this location. They are very top level and continue the highest level of service and quality.
My wife and I just got home from a wonderful meal at the Keg on Wellington. We considered a trendy down town joint but decided to go with what has always been a good experience. We have never been disappointed with this Keg and tonight was no different. Excellent prompt, polite and accurate server (Patricia thank you) Excellent food (thank you kitchen). The food was cooked just right with proper temperature and portion. All worth the cost. We will be back.
I like the fact that The Keg always buys interesting buildings in which to house their restaurants. This location is no different. An old alamo looking building greets the onlooker. Inside is low lit intimacy meets classic wooden style steakhouse furniture and decor. Our server tonight was enthusiastic and on top of her game. Very pleasant, courteous, attentive without being overbearing. A difficult balance to achieve but she did it with ease. She even had another server shadowing her so the management must think she is a gem. I ordered Rickard's White, and waited for my meal. My 3 mushroom steak with Bernaise was absolutely delicious and so was my loaded potato.Cooked EXACTLY how I ordered (which some places have trouble with). I'm not huge on chain restaurants, but when I have to go to one, The Keg is a sure thing. Very good.
Loved the prime rib, but wish I could afford it more often. I was given a $25 gift card for the Keg three years ago and hadn't used it because I knew it would only cover about a third of the cost for a couple. I had never been to a Keg before, and it turned out to be the best prime rib I have ever had. My partner's steak was A-OK, too. Guess what you really do get what you pay for. Excellent, knowledgeable server was a cut above. Draft beer seems a little pricey.
Aside from the tired, ageing and dimmly lit dining room, We found the food to be above average. Appetizers are small and therefore not recommended to share. Our steaks tasted as though they were cooked over a gas grill ( as oppsed to a wood, or charcoal fire). They were cooked to perfection, as we ordered them. My friend and I ordered the Horseradish-bacon New York steak...little or no taste of horse radish what so ever. Our side dishes ( mashed potato and vegetables) had the texture and appearance of being cooked earlier, and "Microwaved" to order, then placed briefly in the salamander cooker to give it a fresh, oven baked flavour. (As well as heat the plates up) The other guests in our party had likewise experiences with their meals. Deserts were plentiful and large. Certainly could have shared 2 deserts with 4 people. Bar drinks are pricey, and the coffee is superb. Our server was very helpful and always within sight and available to meet our needs.
We came on Father's day, were able to get a table without a reservation, the place was packed, eventhough they were really running, the server took time to help us with our wine choice, cocktail choice, and our meal decisions, even put together an awesome prime rib and seafood combination, for one of us, paid attention to detail, service, food and atmosphere, flawless.
I think personally The Keg would probably be one of my most favourite resterants. The service is usally quick and friendly. The enviroment is inviting. And boy the food sure is good.I would say overall The Keg would be a 9.5 resterant.
I think that while the service is excellent the food itself is highly overrated.Garlic seems to be the dominant ingredient in practically everything and this can be rather overpowering taking away some of the subtle tastes of the food itself. There is no taking away from the ambiance and the general top service but I would probably not go there on a regular basis.
Re: London South Keg 1059 Wellington Road London Ontario My Wife and I were on a mini vacation in London Ontario and during our visit we dined at your Keg located on Wellington Road. I am pleased and compelled to inform you that we were so pleased at the quality of service and more so the simply outstanding food. The chef, who we later found his name to be Robbie, cooked our fillet mignons better than any my wife and I have experienced. Being a bit of a gourmet cook myself, I was humbled at how well Robbie nailed his main dish. I know the margin for error with this cut of meat is small, and Robbie hit it out of the park! My wife and I eat at many fine restaurants and eat very well at home at the hand of my cooking, so we truly have something to compare Robbie’s cooking to. As we said to the general manager at this location, “I hope you’re paying Robbie double”. Robbie's ability to cook the perfect steak is simply amazing!!! My wife and I had reservations for the next night at another restaurant and were willing to cancel our reservations to come back to the Keg. Now that is saying something! I would say to anyone visiting London Ontario to add to their itinerary a visit the Keg when Robbie is cooking to experience the perfect fillet mignon!!!
The food was delicious and the service was wonderful. Can't wait to go back again!
