Went to iron duke last night and it wasn't a great experience.Mussels were swimming in a sauce that had way too much cream, crab cakes were ok but the entree wasn't very good. Cold bacon wrapped meatloaf and warm( not hot) soup. Friend had BLT with only one thin slice of Peameal and below average salad. Overall disappointed. Beer was cold. That was the only upside to our Duke experience. Won't return for dinner.
A couple of friends and I went in for dinner about a week ago. As soon as we sat down the waitress was over to take our drink orders. We all decided to get the special of roasted chicken with a mushroom sauce, it was absolutely to die for. The portions were large and potatoes and green beans were cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared a pumpkin creme brulee between the three of us. It was so decadent. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant for someone who is looking for a great pub in Kingston
Decided to try the Iron Duke for dinner after a movie- around 9pm on a Thursday night. It was somewhat busy in here but the noise volume was very very high making it difficult for my husband and I to talk to one another. The menu was limited but I think it must have been the pub menu. Service was okay and the food was alright. Based on our meal tonight we wouldn't run back and if we did go back, would not order what we did on this night. I ordered the veg mufaletta and did not enjoy it at all...basically a very cold sandwich that just tasted like olive and ende up being around $14.00 (charged extra for the sweet pot fries). My husbands ribs were "okay" as he put it. The sweet potato fries were excellent though and it was very nice in there (ie/cleanliness etc) for a pub.
We went to the Duke for Dinner before the Sheryl Crow concert at the K Rock Center. It was a zoo, the busiest I've seen it by far. The staff seemed overwhelmed and unprepared for how busy they were. We waited for a very long time for our food, and were worried we would miss the beginning of the show. When we did finally get our food, we were very satisfied. The food was great and worth the wait....and we made it to the show, which was amazing, and we went back to the Duke for beer after.
Ate there twice - Sat.Aug 30 & Fri Sep 12/08. Four of us 1st time. 2 ordered liver & onions (1 rare, 1 well-done). The liver & onions were exceptional - best I've ever had in a restaurant - melt in your mouth. My cousin's husband was really impressed with having parsnips served alongside. My cousin said the chicken pot pie was really good, but she was in awe with the salad - esp. the addition of fennel & she said the dressing was to die for! My husband loved the wings, which he said were the closest to an actual 'Buffalo' sauce that he had found in Kingston (we're new residents). His garlic bread was almost as decadent the next day (doggie bag) as it was when freshly cooked - Pan Chancho bread, provolone & chunks of bacon. 2nd trip - hubby, self, son. Hubby ordered wings & garlic bread again - loved it. I was very tempted by the special - a Guinness & bacon braised lamb shank - but went for the liver again, this time with market vegetables - again it was outstanding. Son ordered the souvlaki. It was a very interesting presentation with baby red potatoes. He is a cook in Ottawa - he was extremely impressed & sent his thanks to the chef and thanked us several times for taking him to The Duke. Service excellent also, very accommodating. We will definitely be regular customers. Hang on to that chef!
Been twice, once was enough! Much better Pubs to choose from. Over rated for the quality and service that we recieved not once but twice, but never again
I'll start with I like -- and want to continue liking! -- the Iron Duke. It's just that every time I go there, there's *something* significant that annoys. On this particular experience, we received "fresh" glasses on a few occasions. One smelled of stale beer, another of bleach. It seemed like at one minute they're just rinsing (yuck!), and the next they're going overboard with the bleach wash. I know other people who've had the same experience. I've begun to question every dish/glass/piece of cutlery they bring me. Really, it has the potential to be an AWESOME pub. But the attention to detail thing really needs some... well, attention.
We were blown away by the transformation that has taken place here. The interior of this pub is gorgeous, and the food was killer. That was the best calamari I've had in Kingston, and my souvlaki platter was wonderful. My wife and I look forward to trying out the rest of the menu.
Amazing Pub/Restaurant with great atmosphere and friendly staff.... fantastic and healthy food and all the sports you can possibly handle on multiple flat screen TV's... with a great selection of beers on tap... A must!
awesome new pub! fun place, good food the coldest pint of 50 in town. well done!
