I have been to mexico and proclaim this restaurant to be better than half, no, make that three quarters of the ones down there! especially their guacamole, just superb! The place looks like a dive, I promise you though, it's a GEM! Awesome service, fantastic food and killer cheap for the portions you get!
Had the burrito and Chalupa. Both were excellent. Starter Nachos and sauce was very tasty. Many reports of slow service but we went on a busy Friday evening and were served very quickly and place was packed.
I have gone to Mex-I-Can multiple times and it is the food that always brings me back. The potions are quite large, but I always manage to finish my meal because it is so very tasty. I order the vegetarian burrito, and it is one of the best I have had. I quite like the atmosphere, it is very run down looking, but it looks just like a restaurant in Mexico. The main thing I do not like about this restaurant is the service. The waiters are not very friendly and are disorganized. Twice now we have had a second waiter come up and ask what we would like to order after we just ordered from another. They never seem to have a smile on their face. The owner is friendly and nice but was dressed very unprofessionally and probably should have left the serving to the waiters. But... like I said, the food brings me back. Unless the food changes I will continue to go here because it is excellent!
I used to love this place, Visited it every couple of months never had an issue. Even if the owners would see me on the street they would say hi, passing by to me, I thought they where nice people. However the service in this place has gone so downhill its sad. We even found a hair in our rice, and when we brought it the first the servers attention, they didn't do anything, said sorry didn't offer to comp a thing, I happened to walk by the kitchen and saw the owner and said what happened today everything was so bad he said sorry, but didn't offer to comp a thing as well. We had drinks apps and dinner and although the food was decent even though the dishes came ten mins apart from eachother, Never agian will I go to this place, sad part is I was planning on going the next day with my friend for lunch we went elsewhere. go to papagyo much better
Not a bad place for Mexican food. Recently went here for lunch with a friend. We each tried the chalupas. The plates are massive, if not a little too generous. My chalupa was very good, but you had to try to eat it quickly or risk the cake getting overly soggy and unpleasant. In place of meat, they put some nicely sauteed cactus with other veggies. The accompanying rice was nothing special, and the black bean's texture was a little repelling. A good experience with some good food. I would definitely try other items on the menu in the future.
My first visit to this establishment has me wanting more. I heard they were always busy so I was expecting to enter a zoo when I walked in, but I was the only customer. I was greeted by a young man who took my order of a few chorizo tacos right away, Food took less than 5 minutes to get to the table. The atmosphere here is unique in that it is is what I'd expect from a local place in south america. Very simple, a few tables and chairs scattered here and there, not much to the organization or decor. But it works. In fact it intrigued me to have a look around and the place reminds me of someones house....so it is actually comforting. My tacos were fantastic. A perfect combinatoin of ground spicy chprizo, onions, corriander, and hot sauce, in freshly toasted flatbreads. Delicious. Service was very good and the server was approachable and explained the concept of the place to me at length. I'll be back!
We were given a recommendation to attend this place from a co-worker. When we first we walked in, the place seemed really quiet and somewhat rundown. We were definitely not feeling it, but then we sat down and was served right away by a kind server. We were surprised by all of the great selections. We decided on our meals and were brought our complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. They were great! The meal came quickly, within at least 15 minutes. My meal had tons of items! There were four tortilla chips with refried beans poured on them. There was also a cup of rice, with the tortillas placed on a bed of lettuce. The presentation was phenomenal! I love how they also have the option of gluten-free if you are allergic to wheat. The meal wasn't that expensive either, only $31 for the both of us! The only thing that I found strange was the bathroom. It was very tiny, and not very accomodating. Other than that, great atmosphere, great servers, and great food, will definitely return!

I love this place and usually go once a month. Everything that we've ordered has been delicious. No the service isn't that fast but it's like all things you are nice and relaxed with the servers and they make the effort. I love spicy food and this place doesn't disappoint. I always ask for extra hot and the pile on the hottest sauce they kind find I even asked to buy it the last time and they came out with a plastic container for me to take home. Usually order flautas, nachos, chimichanga, burritos...but it's all yummy. Oh and the coke is REAL coke, order one.
I cannot say enough about this place...and it's all good. I eaten dinner here on countless occasions and I've tried just about everything on the menu. I can honestly say there isn't anything I wouldn't recommend. If you're looking for 'fast food' you won't find it here. Come prepared to enjoy a freshly prepared meal, made with love. Veronica takes great pride in her work, and she is a master. I promise you won't be disappointed.
Like most others we'd heard about this place & thought we would try it out. I guess it was about 5:00pm on a wednesday and when we walked in, the place was empty.....except for the staff sitting around a table at the front. Service was good, really not a good looking place BUT -- the food was awesome! If you're the type that needs to be surrounded by nice decor and have staff treat you like royalty, this is not the place for you at all. We go for food, great food, and this place has it!
my husband and i are going on vacation and we always take the kids for dinner before we leave, my co-worker Rose and my sister-in-law Trish recomended Mex i can, we loved the atmosphere, it felt like we were really in mexico, the music had me wanting to dance in my seat, the owner came out to greet us and the staff were very attentive making sure we had drinks and making suggestions when we couldnt decide what to order since everything sounded so good. i dont remember the names of all the dishes we ate since they were all so good, but the one thing that stands out for me is the giant burito(delicious). over all the staff ,the atmosphere and especially the fantastic food have convinced us to invite our family and friends to come to Mex i can !!!
After one of my friends called me to ask for some info about this restaurant I decide to post this so people know what kind of place the are dinning in. This happen about three weeks ago when I went to have dinner with a few friends to celebrate my birthday. What I didn't anticipate was, after an hour and a half, leaving without ever getting my food. I have never walked out of a restaurant in my life. But my experience at this place was extra ordinary! When we first placed our orders, we were just trying to have a few drinks to celebrate and after order our meal but we noticed that there was a large table getting ready to sit down. We asked if we could put our order in before them. The waitress said ok. And then he left for 15 minutes to take their order instead of ours. Super!!!. he never looked back to us,never asked or said anything. Finally we placed our order.My friends got their food and... 25 minutes later, my order came out wrong. 5 minutes after that, it came out wrong again. And again. And again. And then it just stop!! Nothing!! No food or waitress to my table,No drinks.NOTHING!!!! After waiting for an hour, and still with no success in getting my food, we tried to called over the manager. Nothing. A waitress came to our table. At that time I was so upset because I had to eat from my friends plate that I didn't even want them to bring my meal,she asked if everything was ok,I said of course not, I am still waiting for my meal.She apologized and offered me to bring my dinner in 5 Mnts but I just told her to cancel my order She went to the kitchen and never came back ,our waitress came to ask what I ordered and I told him that we never got the rest of our drinks or my food so we just asked for our bill. And then he vanished. After another half hour our waitress came with a 10 dollars gift certificate at this point I was really offended because the Manager did not came to our table to give an explanation of what happened. They couldn't turn a table to save their reputation, and we started joking about being stuck like a bunch of hostages along with the mice I saw at the place!!!, and the bathrooms? So durty!!! Anyway I have to be fare probably if you order take out you will not have any problem because their food is not that bad,too fatty,but good taste but again I just atet some from my friends so I could be wrong, maybe Is really good.. Unless you are some sort of masochist, avoid thiss restaurant????? at all costs.!!!!!!
My girlfriend and i waited at the front door for five minutes before the bartender acknowledged us. Took another five to get a table. We were told it was too late for a full menu. Five minutes later our server came back and corrected himself, we could order a meal. Turns out we couldnt as they never came back to take even our drink order despite the other waitress looking at us several times. So we walked out after a long twenty or thirty minutes to eat at another place, you know... One that will serve us. If they dont want to serve people, dont own a restaurant. Pathetic indeed.
The food was fantastic! It was real Mexican fair. Very simple and very good. Guacamole was fresh, chips were fantastic and we had the burritos which were excellent. The service wasn't great but it wasn't horrible. The staff was kind and friendly and service was not slow at all. I think so many people are used to corporate chain-like service which is highly artificial. Here the people are natural. The place is busy so it is not a big deal to have to ask for napkins. It happens. They immediately brought us them and were, as I said, very obliging. I loved that they serve Coca-Cola in the glass bottle. I never drink pop but when I saw it in the bottle, I just had to have one. Great experience. LOVED it and will certainly bring friends and family. Anyone who thinks that the food isn't good has never had real Mexican food. THis is the real deal.
I was completely underwhelmed by the experience here. After planning on dining here for sometime I was really looking forward to the "best mexican in the city" as i had heard however was completely let down. The wait for our dish was extremely long and the waitstaff was not inviting and pretty much just didnt care. Teh most disappointing part however would have to be the food. The quesadillas had watery meat and fell apart when you attempted to eat them which was more than irritating and the Chimichanga contained more lettuce than it did anything else (pretty sure there shouldnt be lettuce at all), the meat inside was watery and the sour cream even more watery which i didnt think was possible at all. After paying we through the meals out and went somewhere else for dinner.... very very disappointing.
This was my first visit. I was very impressed with the great service, the good food, the atmosphere and the look of the place. The food was really good, the drinks cold. To top it off, a little slice of birthday cake was brought out with a candle and Mexican hats and the servers sang happy birthday to my daughter who we were celebrating her birthday. They noticed the button she was wearing announcing that she was the birthday girl. We were all surprised. Just some information Serves meat, veg options available. Mexican restaurant. Many menu items can be made vegetarian or vegan upon request. Gluten free, large portions. Veg options are cooked separately from the meat. Tortillas made in-house. There is a small store and gallery on the premises. Cash only.
Came in on a Friday night around 8pm. The only table available was right next to the drafty door, smack dab beside the waiting area. So we told the hostess we were willing to wait. Every group that came in after us did the same. We waited about 20-30min to be seated, which it fine. I know it's a busy night. However, I was a little peeved when the group who came in 15min after us, got seated, served drinks and appetizers all before our server even came by to greet us. As soon as the server arrived, we ordered right away to try and minimize our wait time. It was busy, so our food took some time. Eventually.. our table got the Tostadas and Burrito. There was obvious waiting time still for the rest, so we told the others to start eating. 10-15 minutes later Halfway finished, the Chilli arrives. The hostess can by to ask if everything was alright, I told her that my food has not arrived and she says she'll check. I ordered the Chimichangas. Several times during the wait, several food runners stopped by to ask me if I ordered the tacos or burritos. The even waiter stop by after another 10 minutes and asked be what I ordered! It is likely that they brought it to the wrong table, but no one bothered to inform me... Finally, my food came out when everyone was finished eating. I ate half of it, it was very filling. Then asked for a take out container, again... I had to ask several times. Disappointed, we decided to just get the bill and go home. By this point, the restaurant wasn't even half full with 3-4 waiters still on duty most people already had food on their table. But it still took another long wait to get someone's attention for the bill. We had to ask three times and probably waiting another 20mins. Meanwhile, we saw our server just standing the corner trying to figure out what to do with himself. Overall, the food was delicious, the burrito was very tasty. The Chimichanga was a little heavy for my likings However the terribly slow and sub-par service makes me unenthusiastic to give it another shot unless I am really craving the food. I used to waitress myself, so I am on average more patient than my company, always the one giving the benefit of the doubt.... We aren't the type to make a big fuss. I know it was probably bad luck and I got the one bad server, but there seemed to be a lack of team work between the other wait staff. Or inconsistency in service, the other table arrived, was served more quickly and was out the door 20min before us. They weren't quick eaters... I saw another table get personal service from the chef and hostess. Either way, I am unimpressed.
I'm so glad we heard about this place because we never would have gone in if we had just walked by. We expected slow service so we were pleasantly surprised to be served quickly. The food was really, really good. The medium sauce was just enough to give a light burn and tingle, just the way we like it. The decor was run down, but just what we expected, so it just seemed quaint. Food service was excellent, but it took a very long time to get our bill. We will be back soon.
this place is a dump i was actually a little afraid to go in but that being said once you get over that best mexican food by far . i had actually just returned from a 5 star resort in mexico 2 days befor we tried this place and mexico didnt even compare. our waitress encouraged us to order quickly as the food is all made fresh to order so it takes a while it was very busy and the staff is a little forgetful i actually had to get up and get my own napkins and cutlery for the table. we orderd guacamole which is a must and cactus quesidillas both amazing!!. i had the chicken enchiladas another member in our party had the super bouritto which was enough for 2 and chimichangs with homeade chorizo and tamales. they were all served with beans and rice. they had a great selection of beer for those who enjoy a beer with there meal overall great place to go for a casual night out if you are a fan of mexican food. cant wait to go back
