Alex Larente Photography

Alex Larente enjoys using modern digital photography to recreate a more traditional, vintage aesthetic. Heavily influenced by the advertising campaigns of the 1950s as well as traditional pinup photography, Alex uses soft colours and tones mixed with contrasts to create photographs his subjects can feel proud of. "I want people to look at the photo of themselves and really see themselves in it,” he explains.

While Alex feels at at home shooting traditional style portraits, he also excels at professional headshots (for actors, authors, and more) and performance art photography. "I work a lot with the growing burlesque and performance community in Vancouver," he explains. "I like to create elegant images focusing on both a positive body image and an empowered sense of self."

Alex's portfolio brims with subjects wearing all manner of costumes, but rarely do his photographs look staged. "Working with the burlesque community means that they typically arrive with their own costumes," Alex notes. "So I have lots of experience in shooting pictures that capture the spirit."

For one burlesque artist, Alex was called on to shoot pictures of her in a beluga whale costume. "It was fun," he laughs, "but every subject is really unique, every photo-shoot is lots of fun."
