It’s not a trick question, but what do the occupations of midwife and esthetician have in common? According to Etelka Zubor, it’s being a caring, comforting person who’s vested in building relationships with people in the community. In her native Hungary, Etelka was trained as a midwife, but when she came to Canada, she found there wasn’t the same demand for her occupation and had to change careers. When she was looking at what the next step would be, esthetics immediately jumped out at her for the chance to help people look good and be at ease with themselves.
“I’ve always been interested in esthetics,” Etelka says. “I ended up taking training in esthetics, and this is the fastest-growing industry, so I’ve been updating my skill set and and taking many, many courses since.”
Simply showing up for work each day wasn’t enough for Etelka who wanted to put her own personal stamp on her esthetics practice, so she opened Lumina Esthetics in 2003. Here she worked to create an environment where people felt comfortable and cared for.
