Since the 1970s, D’Angelo Photography has been a fixture in Calgary for all kinds of photography and photo restoration work. Trevor Carter is the fourth owner of the company, but has worked there his whole professional life. “I graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design. The owner at the time had multiple sclerosis and couldn’t handle the photography, so I took over right out of college,” says Trevor.
A born-and-raised Calgarian, Trevor immediately started picking up major clients and when the lease on the shop's Heritage Square location came up the then-current owner was ready to sell. Trevor seized the opportunity to be his own boss. “I love it because I’ve always tried to run it. I was always butting heads with someone else about what should happen,” laughs Trevor. “I like the freedom. I enjoy being able to do things the way I like.”
D’Angelo Photography eventually moved to a new studio off Deerfoot near Glenmore Trail. It’s a spot that has worked out well for Trevor, who prefers studio shooting. “I love studio photography. I’m a control freak. Shooting where there are lots of factors outdoors is great, but I prefer my studio.”
