Sheryl Walsh has been in the fitness industry since 1998, teaching classes in rented spaces and bouncing from studio to studio. But she wanted her own place. So Sheryl approached her friend Brian Williams to help finance a new studio with a new attitude that offered something different from the routine fitness experience.
“I wanted to get away from the gym. I wanted to offer different styles of workouts,” says Sheryl, who now runs Strut Fitness & Dance. “We try to make things more interesting, more fun, so people would want to take a class.”
Some of the unique classes Strut Fitness & Dance offers include suspension yoga – where you actually do poses while suspended in a hammock – and pole dancing and burlesque. At this studio there are numerous fun ways to get in shape.
“Our number-one priority is trying to be more accessible to anybody who wants to try dance or try something new,” explains Sheryl. “And secondly, we want to create a safe environment for the aerial program. Some of my instructors and I have been injured and I wanted to make sure that doesn’t happen. Every teacher is certified to create that safety standard.”
