At only 26 years old, Nic Solano has already been working in a kitchen for more than a decade. Growing up in his family’s Salt & Pepper Restaurante Mexicano, which was originally opened by his grandfather in Bowness in 1988, Nic gained plenty of experience that allowed him to explore culinary opportunities throughout Calgary. Now, Nic is back with the family business, working as kitchen manager at Salt & Pepper’s Inglewood location.
Born in Tezoalta, Oaxaca, Nic’s grandfather Silvio Solano immigrated to Canada in 1969 and started making a name for himself in the culinary world almost immediately. By 1988, he was ready to open his own restaurant to showcase the authentic Mexican flavours that had inspired him all his life. According to Nic, Calgary was lacking true Mexican options, and his grandfather’s restaurant helped fill that niche – and continues to do so to this day.

NOT THAT GREAT. OLD FOOD.
Food and service was great. I will definitely come back here again in the near future. Thanks for making us feel welcomed.
Great variety of food. I got the combination plate and I really enjoyed it.
Greatest Mexican restaurant around. I love the food, the service, and the atmosphere here. Nothing else in the area compares!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone!
Salt & Pepper is very open and inviting. The food and service was really great. The waitress recommended a few entree's to try and she was right, they were excellent.
My wife and I love the atmosphere here. It almost feels like we are somewhere else when we come here. From the decorations and furniture to the food and drink, it all has a really authentic feel.

A Mexican eatery with two sunny and spacious locations — one in Inglewood and a second on Bowness Road — Salt & Pepper is one of the city’s oldest Mexican restaurants. Its taco entree features three tacos filled with your choice of chorizo, chicken or beef dressed with cheese, lettuce, crema and adobo.
